Wakeboarding's elite kick off season in Orlando
by Press Release [April 16, 2012]
High-flying airs and technical rail maneuvers are on nonstop display at the 2012 season opener of the Nautique Wake Games held at the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando this weekend. The Games bring a global field of the world's most talented professionals and elite amateurs competing in the sport's only pro-am team contest in the world.
Orlando's own Phillip Soven, 22, renews his rivalry in the Men's Pro division against Australian prodigy Harley Clifford, 18. Last year, in only his third year on tour, the Aussie teenager put an end to Soven's winning streak of three out of the previous four King of Wake titles.
Among the field of 50 professional wakeboarders is Soven's 20-year-old brother, Bob. Finishing fifth in last year's standings, Bob is considered a favorite at this year's Wake Games.
Another hometown hero will also be focused on making a huge statement in her backyard during the Wake Games. Orlando native Dallas Friday, 25, the most accomplished female wakeboarder of all time, will compete in her first pro event since 2010 after battling her way back from a series of grueling knee injuries.
The Nautique Wake Games is stop number one on the eight-event King of Wake Series. Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under) or $7 (adult) if purchased online.
